In the snatch and clean, there is a counterproductive tendency, particularly among strong athletes, to pull the barbell up with the arms instead of relying on the force of the much more powerful hips.

5 keys to active learning for cops

In law enforcement we talk about active shooters, active patrol, and active life styles. Too often however, we seem to treat learning as a passive activity, something that simply happens over time and too often only when we are assigned to attend training.

Shed comfortable habits so you never ‘feel safe’

The other day I saw an officer working a crash. He was able to talk to both drivers at the same time as he sat in the comfort of his patrol car. The drivers door was open allowing one driver to squat down beside him and the other driver was leaning in through the open passenger window. Perfect way to get killed. Get out of your car and hold a clipboard and use an old fashioned item called pen and paper. Or keep the drivers near their vehicles. Being lazy is going to make for more funerals. You young rookies and older “veterans” need to be aware of those around you. The officer told me he felt safe because he had been talking to the drivers a while. Ted Bundy made his victims feel safe too.
